Some designers’ egos can get overblown. So perhaps it is poetic justice that a 35-foot long inflatable creature will adorn the outside of the Architects and Designers Building for the annual Designer Saturday festivities from October 15 to 17 in New York.

The Make-believe sea slug, with 140 wiggling fingers, is the latest inflatable item develop by GoldmanArts of Boston, an environmental design company.  “It’s something that every building needs,” said Jon Goldman the creative director, who was inspired by Japanese science fiction films and named the slug “Nudibranch.”

The Slug shown modeling (below) outside of Boston’s South Station, resulted from imaging “what happens when an eyedropper of growth serum hits the water,” he said.  It will add a touch of whimsy to Designers Saturday, a somewhat whimsy-free event that showcases new furniture intended primarily for commercial use.

The architects and Designers Building is situated at 58 Street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan.
